Yusuf Oladejo, a 40-year-old Sales Representative, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly stealing N500,000 from his employer.
Oladejo, who lives in Oko-Oba in Lagos’ Agege district, is accused of stealing and has pleaded not guilty.
ASP Clifford Ogu, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on October 25 in Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos.
The money, according to Ogu, belonged to his employer, Mrs Oluwafadekemi Lawal.
Lawal, according to Ogu, discovered the money missing after taking inventory of her goods. She reported the incident to the police, who arrested the defendant.
According to Ogu, the offense violated Section 287 (7) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stealing carries a seven-year prison sentence.
Mrs S.K Matepo, the Magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
Matepo stated that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show proof of two years of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
She postponed the case until January 27.
