The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has advised motorists to shun reckless driving and reduce speed during the yuletide as life has no duplicate.
The Sango-Ota Area Commander of TRACE, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ota, Ogun.
Ajibade stressed the need for all motorists to exercise patience and reduce speed as most of the roads across the state were in good condition.
“We need to appeal to motorists to refrain from any nefarious act and dangerous driving that could endanger the lives of other road users because it is only the living that can celebrate,” he said.
He noted that the increase in crashes across Sango-Ota and its environs could be traced to reckless driving, dangerous driving, among others.
Ajibade implored motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations so that the incessant cases of road crashes could be reduced to the barest level before, during, and after the yuletide.
The area commander said that TRACE personnel would be deployed across Sango-Ota and its environs to control and manage traffic gridlocks as well as ensure the safety of lives and property.
He admonished motorists against the use of mobile phones while driving and driving against traffic to prevent unnecessary crashes during the festive season.
Ajibade further warned them against taking any intoxicating substances like alcohol and drugs that could influence their decision, which might lead to road crashes.
He reiterated the commitment of TRACE to ensuring safety on the roads during the festive season.
