The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Thursday commenced training for 25 unemployed graduates on Solar power installation and maintenance in Edo.
Director-General of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, at the commencement ceremony in Benin, said the five days training was under the Special Public Works programme (SPW).
Represented by the state coordinator, Mr Solomon Edobor, Fikpo stated that the training in quest to equip the unemployed graduates with remarkable skills and to be self-reliant, is in collaboration with Abuja Graduate School.
Fikpo added that the training was a strategy to extract energy from surplus sunlight to meet the need of the people.
According to him, the Solar power installation and maintenance training is anchored under the Solar Training Scheme facilities on the job training to enable unemployed graduates participate in Solar energy design, procurement and maintenance of solar panels.
He stated that the training was to address the high rate of graduate unemployment among graduates in tertiary institution in the country.
He further said that the training became imperative amid epileptic power supply in the country.
He added that the participants would become their own boss and a multipliers effect of employing others and they will as well join the solar Business Millionaires.
