The Coach of the U-17 male Cricket Club, Benin, Theophilus Ibodeme, in a recent statement has revealed what has kept his squad going in the Edo Cricket League.
Ibodeme stressed that consistent training has kept the club ahead of its competitors in the ongoing tournament in the state.
He made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja while reacting to the team’s excellent performance since the commencement of the competition in November.
The club, whose players form the core of Nigeria’s national U-17 team, are topping the league table with five wins from five matches.
“What gives us an edge over other teams is that we train consistently. We have been training for over a year now, even before the commencement of the league.
“Our training affords us the opportunity of noticing our errors as well as improve on our skill.
“We also play as a team and complement each other to achieve our desired result, that is why the players can match any team in the league,’’ Ibodeme said.
NAN reports that the league, which has seven other clubs, is now on a two-week break to celebrate the Yuletide.
The other clubs are: No Limit, Invictus, Dolphins, Ambrose Ali University, Integrity Force, UNIBEN Club and the Crusaders.
