Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old technician on Saturday for allegedly stabbing a union leader to death in Agbado area of the state.
Police spokesman, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this at Ota, Ogun State, on Sunday.
According to him, the suspect was arrested, following a distress call received by the police.
He stated that one “Oluomo’’ reported that the victim, one Damilare Oladipupo, a.k.a “No Story’’, was stabbed to death at a hotel in the area.
Oyeyemi added that the victim, Oladipupo, 42, a member of an Ogun State transport union, was at the hotel to celebrate Christmas with the owner when he was stabbed to death.
“When the police got to the scene, it was gathered that the deceased was lured out of the hotel and stabbed on the chest, hand and face.
“It was also gathered that Oladipupo struggled with his assailant and succeeded to seize the cardigan worn by him and the knife used,’’ he stated.
Oyeyemi explained that the victim was rushed to the hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead.
He added that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the killing of the deceased and claimed it was the devil’s handiwork.
The police spokesman stated that the suspect claimed to have gone to the hotel to find out who beat and injured one of his boys, but on getting there, the deceased accosted him and a fight ensued.
It was then he brought out his knife and stabbed Oladipupo many times.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Lanre Bankole has directed the transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for interrogation and possible prosecution.
