The Mater Dei Communication, an NGO on moral rebranding has urged Nigerians to uphold the moral values the country is known for that will bring development, peace and harmony.
The Country Director of the Centre, Rev. Nnamdi Okpara made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Enugu.
According to him, our goal whether Christian, Muslim or pagan is to ensure that Nigeria succeeds.
Okpara said “Nigerians are expected to be patriotic, patient and be mindful of their conducts as well as shun any act that will divide the country or suck it dry.
“2022 is going to be a great year for Nigerians but we have to be patient because for us to achieve greater success, we must go through some pains.”
The director noted that the country was passing through difficult situation because of the low morals of its citizens, which had also affected the economy.
“Our economy is held down because of our morals; how can one person own up to 12 cars and pastors fly in jets, while 80 per cent of its citizens languish in poverty.
“People should change their attitudes and consciences to make this country better.
“We should continue to respect the rule of law and avoid doing things that will divide us but work towards uniting Nigeria,” he said.
Okpara said that “united we stand and divided will fall”, adding that what was expected of the citizenry was to be law abiding.
According to him, in the life of every nation, there comes a time they will come across hard times, that is what Nigeria is going through now.
“After civil war, the country faced same challenge but overcome it, so what citizens should do is to be patient and law abiding.
“We pass through challenges to come out better, all that ate required of us is cooperation with the government because they are human being too,” Okpara said.
He advised that it was wrong to pay evil for evil, saying “the evil we think we are doing against President Muhammadu Buhari is actually done against Nigeria because Buhari will leave one day and Nigeria remains.
“By the time we realised the crime we have committed against the country, we have left an indelible mark in the life of the country.
“So our utmost interest should be for the well-being of the nation.”
Okpara said that the group had restored sanity and moral rebranding among Nigerians to an extent, through its campaigns.
He clained that it had put structures in place that would shape Nigeria morally and gradually restoring the glory of Nigeria.
