The Management, Nationwide League One (NLO) South-East, has mandated club-sides within the third tier of Nigerian football in the region, to engage qualified and certified football coaches henceforth.
The NLO Director South-Eas, Ebere Amaraizu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Enugu that the mandate had become necessary in order to improve the game in the zone.
Amaraizu reminded all NLO club-sides within the zone to urgently comply with the directive to avoid sanctions.
According to him, NLO is making it a priority for club-sides to hire qualified coaches for their teams.
He noted that the NLO management was bent on enthroning professionalism and decorum in the nation third tier league which is regarded as the cradle of Nigeria football.
“Henceforth, NLO will not tolerate the practice of engaging unqualified coaches to work with their teams because of its negative consequences in the development of football at the grassroots.
“The league body has also appealed to state Football Associations to assist in ensuring that no unqualified coach is allowed to operate in their state.
“This reminder to NLO clubs and owners in the South-East has become necessary as no NLO club-side will be registered without presenting the certificate or diploma of their respective coaches,” he said.
Amaraizu advised club owners to utilise the opportunity offered by the NLO to equip coaches in the league with the new trends in coaching, through the second edition of NLO/Berachiah Grassroots Football Coaching Clinic.
The director noted that the clinic would kick off in all the six geopolitical zones of the country on Feb. 1 and last till Feb. 28.
