No date has been set yet for a meeting between International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach and Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai whose well-being is unclear.
Her situation became unclear after she issued sexual assault allegations against a former top politician last year.
An IOC spokesperson said on Wednesday that the meeting would take place during the Beijing Winter Olympics which runs from Feb. 4 to Feb. 20.
Bach arrived in Beijing Saturday and on Tuesday met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Former world number one doubles player Peng had disappeared from the public eye after accusing a former Chinese vice premier of sexual assault in a social media post.
The post was quickly deleted then.
She held closed door video calls with Bach and the IOC as the Olympic movement sought to deal with the case, and a meeting at the Beijing Games was agreed upon.
However, the calls did little to ease the concerns.
They led to criticism on the IOC and its president who said Peng was fine and spoke of “silent diplomacy” in the case which gained worldwide attention.
The IOC said it has remained in contact with Peng since the first video call in late November, with the last call taking place last week.
Peng later in December in an interview spoke of “misunderstandings” around the post, but there have been concerns she was coerced to retract her allegations.
The women’s WTA tour has suspended all of its tournaments in China over the case.
