The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Kaduna directorate, on Thursday began a life skill training for 20 youths and women in Kudenda community, Kaduna South Local Government Area.
The acting state coordinator NDE, Mrs Victoria Williams-Dada made this known during an orientation programme organised for the beneficiaries of the training.
She stated that the training was part of the directorate’s School On Wheels (SOW) programme which was aimed at empowering rural youth and women with different vocational skills that would make them self reliant.
“This year’s SOW training will last for three months; beneficiaries will learn skills as fashion designing, hair dressing, electrical installation, welding and catering.
“Serious minded trainees will be resettled,” she said.
Williams-Dada who also represented the Director-General, NDE, Alhaji Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo, said the directorate had carried out its activities with dedication and commitment to its mandate of reducing unemployment and poverty within the limits of its resources.
He urged beneficiaries to use the opportunity they had got wisely by paying attention to trainings and implementing what they learnt.
The community head of Kudenda, Mr Ali Umar, commended the NDE for choosing members of his community for the training adding that the training was timely as many youth were idle with no jobs.
He prayed God to continue to guide the directorate in ensuring they provided more jobs to Nigerians for better development.
Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries also commended the employment directorate pledging to set up their own businesses immediately after training
Blessings Julius said she was happy to be part of the trainees because she had no one to assist her financially adding that she would use the training she had received to start up a catering business.
Another beneficiary, Mr Stanley Bani, appreciated the NDE for the programme saying he would learn electrical installation and teach others on the skill in his locality.
