The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has begun a three months training for 20 women and youths in cosmetology and technical skills in Ebonyi State.
The Director-General of NDE, Mr Abubaka Nuhu-Fikpo, disclosed this during the opening of orientation of its 2022 Community Based Training Scheme (CBTS) in Abakaliki on Friday.
Represented by the State Coordinator of NDE, Mr Marcel Igboanude, Nuhu-Fikpo stated that the training had become necessary in the bid to reduce unemployment.
He said that fashion and design, GSM repairs, shoe and leather works and production of confectionery products were also included in the training.
The director-general explained that the CBTS was a training scheme deployed by NDE to import specialised skills in some selected competitive, demand-driven, emerging and short term marketable skills.
“The marketable skills being impacted in unemployed youths in rural and semi-urban areas will enable them become self-reliant.
“Four beneficiaries will be trained on each of the skills for a period of three months, using selected competent and well experienced master trainers.
“At the end of the training, the beneficiaries will be given starter packs in their chosen skills.’’
On technical skills, he said that the trainees would undergo training in computer appreciation, interlock production, aluminum fabrication, and vulcanizing among others.
He reiterated commitment of the Directorate as the apex agency for job creation in the country to continue to empower Nigerian youths.
Nuhu-Fikpo further solicited support of state and local governments as well as NGOs and Faith Based Organisations to partner with NDE in areas of job creation in the state.
Also speaking, Mr Isa Abdu, the Director, Vocational Skills Development Department, Headquarters, Abuja urged the trainees to be focused in order to build their skills.
Abdu, represented by Mrs Agnes Ogbaga, NDE Official, noted that the training was a modern demand driven vocational skills that would go a long way in making the participants employer of labour.
Mr Rosemary Nwamini, a participant, who spoke on behalf of others thanked the Federal Government for the programme, adding that it would make them self-reliant.
