The Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) have disclosed that its athletes would participate in 33 events both nationally and internationally in 2022.
The federation’s Technical Director, Dave Jegede disclosed this on Thursday while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to him, this development was as listed in their 2022 calendar signed by Adamu Maikano, the KFN Secretary-General.
“The calendar indicates that the federation will have its first activity by participating in 23 national programmes, which include the 26th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) event in Lagos from March 16 to March 27,” he said.
According to Jegede, the remaining events are 10 of the 12 on the international calendar.
“Two of the events on the international calendar have already been held in January.
“These are the WKF Youth Camp and Youth League (Youth Summer Olympic qualifiers series) at Monterrey in Mexico from Jan. 18 to Jan. 23 and the Karate 1-Series `A’ in Salzburg, Austria from Jan. 26 to Jan. 30.
“Karate 1-Series `A’ comprises a number of first-class international tournaments all over the world, aiming at WKF event, while giving competitors even more opportunities to improve their position at WKF world ranking,” he said.
Jegede further said the Strata-base National Open Senior Karate Championship would now hold between Feb. 17 and Feb. 20 at the Civic Centre in Port-Harcourt to kickstart their 2022 season.
“The federation’s national events will end with the KFN General Congress in Abuja in December,” he added.
