Residents of Adamawa to be sensitised on traffic regulations

Adamawa State Government has revealed that it will embark on sensitisation on road traffic regulations to avoid crashes, following the construction of flyovers and underpass bridge within Yola metropolis.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Works, Mr Mohammed Suleiman, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Yola.

According to him, the sensitisation would be carried out for two or three weeks, after which enforcement would follow by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).

The permanent secretary said that government had observed violation of traffic regulations by road users around the newly-constructed flyovers and underpass bridge, thus causing frequent accidents.

Suleiman said that at the end of the exercise, more road signs and speed breakers would be provided to avert road crashes.

“Part of the challenges we are having is the violation of traffic rules. We are going to provide two to three weeks enlightenment, after which full enforcement by FRSC and VIOs will commence.

“So whoever violates the rules after the sensitisation exercise will be apprehended by traffic management agencies,” he said.

Suleiman added that some of the u-turns would be blocked to decongest traffic, as some motorists had been exploiting the opportunity to use one-way, instead of going to the next u-turn.

Assuring that the pedestrian bridge on Total flyover would soon be completed to ease crossing, especially for pupils of Capital School, Suleiman urged people of the state to exercise patience.
