Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia says it is targeting a win in Sunday’s week 13, Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie against Enugu Rangers International in Nnewi, Anambra.
The Media Officer of the club, Chigozie Nwosu, said this on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Nwosu said the club will match its opponents squarely at the Ifeanyi Uba FC stadium, which is Rangers’ adopted home ground.
“We have all its takes to amass the three points at stake because we are adequately prepared for the match.
“Abia Warriors have not lost a league match in Nnewi even when it confronted Ifeanyi Ubah FC at the stadium.
“This is an advantage over Rangers as the venue appears to be an away turf for them. We are not afraid of Rangers with its experienced players but will only respect them.
“Another advantage we have is that our current, Coach Imama Amakapabo, once led Rangers to win the league crown in 2016,” he said.
He said that after it’s recent, disappointing 1-1 draw with Nasarawa United the technical crew returned to the drawing board to marshal the team to winning ways.
“We are aware that the match is an oriental derby and will ensure that the worst we can pull at the end of 90 minutes is a draw.
“We are going to bank on the experience of some of our players who once played for the Rangers,” he said.
NAN reports that Rangers currently plays its home matches at the Ifeanyi Uba FC Stadium in Nnewi due to rehabilitation works at its home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
