A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday, sentenced a 33-year-old man, Usen Ekwere, to two months imprisonment for unlawful dealing in cannabis.
The defendant had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of drug trafficking preferred against him by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
After his plea, the Prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case before the court and tendered evidences.
The evidences included a statement of the defendant, request for scientific aid form, packaging of substance form and drug analysis form, among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court admitted the evidence as exhibits.
The prosecutor then urged the court to convict the defendant, based on his plea and the evidences adduced by the prosecutor.
In his judgment, Justice Tijani Ringim found the defendant guilty of the offence, as charged and convicted him accordingly.
He consequently sentenced him to two months imprisonment, beginning from the date of arrest.
According to the charge, the prosecutor said that the convict committed the offence on Jan. 20, at Ashade field in Agege, Lagos.
He said that the convict was apprehended for having unlawful dealing in 600g of cannabis, a narcotics restricted by law.
According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 11(c) of NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
