The Grand Council of Yoruba Youths has called for peace in the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun ahead of the party’s governorship primary on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate past governor of the state and current Minister of Interior, is at loggerheads with the incumbent governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.
Aregbesola has declared his support for the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, as his preferred candidate to fly party’s ticket.
Oyetola, on his part, is seeking to win the party’s ticket to actualise his second term bid, and moves in the camps of the two leaders have heightened tensions in the state.
The President General of the youth group, Mr Bamiji Awa, in a communique issued after an emergency meeting held in Lagos on Wednesday, called on the two gladiators to give peace a chance.
Awa said: “In the interest of peace, unity and camaraderie, we will like to appeal to both sides, our longstanding leader, the political strategist, Oranmiyan Worldwide, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and his former Chief of Staff, his Successor, trusted Ally, the great Accountant and Leader of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, to give peace a chance between themselves.”
He urged Aregbesola to accept his former chief of staff, Oyetola, with open arms.
The youth leader also urged Oyetola to start giving his former boss, Aregbesola, due honour without further delay, saying that after eight years, he would also be addressed as ex-governor of Osun State.
“We must not allow devil to use us to destroy the achievements and good legacies that the progressives have built in Osun since 1999 till date.
“It is high time we joined hands to restore peace into the progressives for collective good of the People of Osun,” the youth leader said.
