Mr Fabian Onah, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, said the party is ready for the Feb. 23, Local Government polls in the state.
Onah said this in Nsukka on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the party having campaigned extensively and vigorously in the 20 Wards that made up the area was optimistic of landslide victory.
“PDP in Nsukka campaigned in all the 20 wards in Nsukka, telling people to vote our chairmanship and councillorship candidates, so that the LG will continue to witness peace and massive development.
“During the campaign, residents trooped out in their thousands and promised to vote for the party massively, because PDP has contributed immensely in developing Enugu State to enviable status,” he said.
The PDP Chieftain said that the party had quality chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the Wednesday polls who emerged from the party’s credible, free and fair primaries.
He described the party’s chairmanship candidate, Mr Walter Ozioko, the incumbent Vice-chairman of Nsukka council, as a man of integrity and enviable track records in all positions he held.
“As a lawyer, he ensures good governance, equity, fairness, justice and due process in everything he does.
“It’s as a result of his good performance as Vice-chairman in the council that he was elected unopposed in primaries as chairmanship candidate of the PDP in Nsukka LG.
“All our councillorship candidates also have good records and quality recommendations from party stakeholders in their wards,” he said.
Onah attributed peace and massive development in Enugu State to the humility, God-fearing and good performance of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
“Since 2015 Ugwuanyi assumed office as the governor of the state the three Senatorial Districts in the state have witnessed peace, massive development and unprecedented human empowerment.
“The governor as the leader of the party in the state and as a democrat has campaigned for the party in the 17 LGAs of the state, urging residents to vote for PDP on Wednesday,” he said.
The PDP chairman urged the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) to make the Feb. 23, credible, free and fair by seeing that the election reflects the wishes and aspirations of Enugu State residents.
“I urge ENSIEC to put the necessary measures in place to ensure the Wednesday poll is credible, free and fair.
“I also advise political parties, their candidates and supporters to accept the results of the election in good faith and in the spirit of sportsmanship since in every election there must be winners and losers.”
