An Anglican Cleric, Ven. Ekenechukwu Nwafor, has called on Christians to live right and be proactive in building a healthy society through good ways of life.
Nwafor, who is the Vicar, Church of The Pentecost, Anglican Communion, Awka diocese, made the call on Sunday during a homily entitled: “Repentance Essential for Forgiveness and Restoration.”
He said that if Christians understood their core responsibilities in life, they will take away their old selves to be meaningful Christians.
According to him, John 3:8 warns that people should not sin, as God was made manifest to destroy sin, adding that this will lead to a better society.
“Romans 5:12-14, sin is a nature of man inherited from Adam, but Christ has died for us, that we be dead to sin to yield to God,” he said.
He said that Christians should do away with their old nature, which is sin, so as to be able to live in obedience to God’s directives that translate into positive living.
Nwafor urged Christians to live a life of forgiveness that erodes any form of bitterness and make them open to relationships that would restore the lost opportunities.
He said that Christians should also be alert to their responsibilities so as not to mix up activities for equal understanding that would build up a safer society.
Nwafor enumerated the old nature of man that must be discarded so as to build a healthier society to include: worldliness, indecent dressing, greed, incest, bribery, pornography, drug addiction and religious addiction, amongst others.
He urged Christians to be conscious of their lifestyles and embrace attitudes that would be devoid of criminal activities and enthrone lawful activities.
“It is only when we live by the dictates of God to obey constituted authorities that people will live orderly.
He advised against quick money making syndrome and loss of interest in God’s activities that would aid in building an acceptable way of living to enthrone a safe society.
Nwafor urged Christians to make prayers their watchword in order to defeat all evil machinations against them.
He described prayer as the key to recording successes in life that would produce success in the larger society which should be embraced.
“Christians need to always anchor their faith in God despite some challenges faced on daily basis,” he said.
Nwafor attributed the current challenges of insecurity, poverty, ritual killings, lesbianism, homosexuality and the kidnappings ravaging parts of the country to faulty ways of living.
“Intensive prayers by Christians will remedy the society; through that, we can restore our lost dignity,” he said.
