An FCT High Court sitting in Kubwa, on Monday, remanded four persons in a correctional centre over alleged culpable homicide.
The defendants: Aloysius Mba, Chigozie Onuoha, Kingsley Ugo and Chizoba Nwafor, were arraigned on a five-count charge, bordering on culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice Bello Kawu adjourned the matter till May 19, for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Fatima Shehu, had told the court that the defendants conspired and caused the death of one Mrs Christiana Ndubuisi by shooting her on her head at Damangaza village, Apo, Abuja, on Jan. 26, 2020.
Shehu said that the defendants, armed with pump action rifles, life cartridges and big iron bars, broke into the house of Mr Kenneth Ndubuisi and collected N500,000 cash.
The prosecution counsel further stated that the defendants also stole two Guarantee Trust Bank cheques and two Techno cell phones, while they shot and injured Ndubuisi’s daughter on the arm on the said date.
She added that the defendants also broke into Mr King Nwodo’s house at Damangaza and collected N50,000 cash, one HP laptop, valued at N170, 000 and a cell phone, valued at N90,000.
“The defendants were arrested by a team of police officers on patrol/stop-and-search team in a Volkswagen Golf car, armed with two pump actions, riffles and cartridges without licences, on Jan. 30,” Shehu said.
The offences, she said, contravened the provisions of Sections (1), (2)(3) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, LFN 2004 and Section 220 of the Penal Code.
