A 22-year-old sales representative, James Chibueze, who allegedly stole N3 million from his employer, was on Thursday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The defendant, whose residential address was not given, is facing a one-count charge of stealing preferred against him by the police.
According to the prosecutor, Insp Ajaga Agboko, the defendant allegedly stole N3 million belonging to his employer, one Mr Gabriel Ngwu.
He also told the court that the defendant stole the said money on Feb. 28, at No. 15, Mandilas GL Gradic Plaza, Lagos Island.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287(7) provides seven years imprisonment for offence of stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs T.A. Idowu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
