A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Shagari Quarters, Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a 29-year-old employee, Chidiebere Ucheagbaoso, to six months imprisonment for stealing N57,000 from his employer.
The convict pleaded guilty and asked the court to temper justice with mercy.
In his ruling, the Judge, Sulyman Ola sentenced Ucheagbaoso after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.
The Judge, however, gave the convict an option to pay N30, 000 as fine and warned him to desist from committing crime in future.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the convict who resides at Gwarinpa Village, Abuja, was arraigned by the police and charged with criminal breach of trust and theft by servant.
He said the complainant Amarachi Ugwuchi of 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the matter at Gwarinpa Police station on March 1, at about 2:40 pm.
Ogada informed the court that, on Feb. 28, at about 8:46 pm, the complainant entrusted her Access Bank ATM card to the convict to withdraw the sum of N50,000 for her.
He said the convict, criminally withdrew N57, 000 from the account and absconded to an unknown destination.
The prosecutor said the police tracked the location of the convict and arrested him stating that the convict admitted to the crime but had used to money to play BET9ja game.
He said the offence contravened sections 312 and 289 of the Penal Code Law.
