Police FC, Enugu on Friday held Team Correctional Service (TCS), Enugu to a 1-1 draw in a first ever friendly football match played at the Police Detective College, Enugu.
The first goal of the match was scored by Nnaemeka Ani of Team Correction Service and it took him just five minutes to get on the score sheet.
However, Jude Eze of Police equalised the goal at the 65th minute of the game.
Speaking after the game, the Coach, TCS, Mr Ikenna Anieke said both teams showed their physical skills and played well.
Anieke said, “It is a friendly match and we are using it to build relationship. They invited us and thank God there were no injuries.
“My team would have won the game but poor communication gap between the centre referee and his assistant hindered us,” he alleged.
Chidi Nwogute of Police FC, described the game as “Well played’’.
“You know, no one can predict football match but our team played a fantastic game,” he said.
He said that the team would use the match to correct error observed in the match and promised they would perform better in future games.
On officiating, Nwogute said it was a common phenomenon that any team that did not play well complained in a game, stressing that nothing like poor communication gap between the officiating teams.
Earlier, the Public Relation Officer, Nigeria Correction Service, (NCoS), Enugu, Emeka Monday said the game would be used to build interagency relationship between the police and officers of the Correctional Service.
“With this type of game, teamwork will be achieved and police and NCoS will not altercate one another. It is the first time both security agencies are having this type of game,’’ Monday said.
Monday urged them to play safe, as they were not competing for any trophy.
