The University of Lagos (UNILAG) female Volleyball team on Monday extended its lead with nine points from three matches at the ongoing 2022 Nigeria University Games.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the host female Volleyball team saw off a stiff opposition from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) winning by 3-1.
The OAU team took the first set by defeating the UNILAG, but the host rallied a fighting spirit as they comfortably dislodged their foe at the last set by 25-14 to end the testy match at 3-1.
The Skipper of the UNILAG team, Peace Ajayi, told NAN that they were already fired up and ready to go for the gold medal at the finals.
“It was a good match, but at first, we had a little setback before we caught up because we didn’t come up with the right morale and fighting spirit. After the setback, we were able to rally up in the second set and we took it up from there.”
“We aim to consolidate on our winning mentality because we are here for the gold. We have made personal sacrifices since 2019, anything other than gold will be unacceptable,” she said.
NAN reports that the Team UNILAG zoomed into the next round after three straight wins.
