A 29-year-old man, Abubakar Mohammed, was on Wednesday docked in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of a stolen she-goat. The police charged Mohammed with theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 18 at about 10 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the goat which was found in the defendant’s possession was suspected to be stolen. He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the Court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the court to admit his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N25,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 5 for a hearing.
