A 30-year-old woman, Ngozi Ezeh, who allegedly ganged up with others, beat up a man, and stole his N75,000, was on Friday arraigned at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Ezeh, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, bodily harm, and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and others at large conspired and committed the offences on March 20, at Signal 2, Liverpool, Army Barracks, Apapa, in Lagos.
Aigbokhan stated that the defendant connived with some security officers now at large, unlawfully arrested and detained the complainant, Jimoh Peter, at Signal 2, Liverpool, Army Barracks, Apapa.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant unlawfully detained the complainant, beat him up and stole his N75,000.
Aigbokhan, said “the beating caused bodily harm to the complainant and he is still recuperating at a clinic”.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 173, 175, 272, 287and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Granting the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, the Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed.
The Magistrate also stated that the sureties evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state government must be intact with one of the sureties being a blood relation of the defendant.
He adjourned the case until April 13 for mention.
