2023 Elections: TUC inaugurates South-West political commission

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has inaugurated the South-West political commission saddled with the responsibility of sensitising the public on the 2023 elections.

TUC President, Mr Quadri Olaleye, announced the inauguration at a news conference in Lagos on Friday.

The South-West comprises; Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ondo and Oyo states.

Olaleye said that the inauguration became necessary as the union’s passiveness in politics had put it into a pitiable condition, especially in the implementation of the minimum wage.

“We inaugurated the commission because our being inactive in the politics of Nigeria has put us into a pitied condition, most especially the implementation of the new minimum wage.

“Part of the agenda is that the commission will roll out plan that is sellable; this time we will make use of our number,” he said.

The union recently convened a Political Round Table in Abuja with the theme “The Role of Organised Labour in Promoting Participatory Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria: Perspectives on 2023 General Elections”.

The round table provided a platform that elicited conversations on varied political, social, and economic challenges facing the country.

Also, the union deliberated over the task before the labour movement in providing solutions through a working people political alternative to perennial leadership problems in Nigeria.
