An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court, on Friday, ordered the remand of Martials Benjamin, 25; Amos Goli, 22 and Nimmak Seltin, 19, in the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti over alleged burglary and stealing.
The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a three-count of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, the defendants committed the offence between February 5 and March 20, between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. at Adebayo Area of Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo also told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves and burgled the shops of Olayinka Blessing, Tijani Adijat, Ape Motun, Aluko Yinka, Folorunso Motunrayo and Afolabi Olorunfemi.
He noted said that the defendants stole some items from the shops of their victims, including: baby wears, provisions, clothing, hand bags, ladies and men’s wears, foodstuffs, face caps and body cream.
Others, according to him, are: perfumes, underpants and recharge cards, all valued at N4 million.
Leramo told the court that the defendants were serial burglars and had been terrorising traders in Adebayo Area of Ado-Ekiti.
He said that in their confessional statements, the defendants regretted their actions, adding that they consumed part of the stolen items, especially the foodstuffs, while others were sent to their shops in Onitsha, Anambra, for sale.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 416(1), 322(a) (c) and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pleas of the defendants were not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendants in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice with the case adjourned till April 18, for mention.
