Ahead of the forthcoming Ramadan fasting, an NGO, Zaytun Humanitarian Foundation, has distributed food items and clothes to more than 500 orphans and the less privileged in Kano State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the month of Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the period when Muslims worldwide observe fasting and prayers.
Muhammad Sani-Abubakar, the Project Coordinator of the foundation, on Thursday in Kano during the distribution of the food items which included rice and clothing materials, said the beneficiaries were selected from different parts of the state.
“Each beneficiary was given 10kg or 25kg of rice and materials depending on the number of people in their families. This will help reduce the difficulty the orphans, widows, the less privileged, and the disabled will experience during the Ramadan period,” he said.
Sani-Abubakar said that the foundation was established in 2014 to help the needy, especially the orphans and less privileged.
According to him, the foundation’s skill and acquisition centre have so far trained and empowered more than 350 women and youths in nine months.
The beneficiaries, according to him, are now self-reliant.
He called on wealthy individuals to support such gestures of helping the less privileged, not only in the month of Ramadan but throughout the year.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Amina Muhammad, a widow, commended the foundation for the gesture and promised to use the items judiciously.
