The police, on Friday, arraigned a 25-year-old man, Mohammed Sanni, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing gas cylinder and electric wire.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4 at about 08:45 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi said that the defendant stole cash sum of N70,000, 6kg gas cylinder, valued at N8,000 and a bundle of electric wire, valued at N5,000, all belonging to one Mr Owolabi Tajudeen.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 302(a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Kay-Williams, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 11, for hearing.
