A 23-year-old man, Abel Abraham, on Friday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for alleged theft of delivery motorcycle belonging to his employer.
The employer is Menue-Menue Food Network.
Abraham, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb.1 on Adeola Street, Medina Estate Gbagada, Lagos State.
Perezi said that the defendant stole the motorcycle from the premises of Menue- Menue Food Network.
According to him, the motorcycle which is a power bike, is marked MUS 549 QK, and worth N550, 000.
He said that the defendant also stole N38,000 belonging to the company.
“During police investigation, the crime was traced down to the defendant and his cohort who is still at large,” he alleged.
Perezi said that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
reports have it that Section 287(7) prescribes seven years’ jail term for stealing from one’s employer, while Section 411 provides for two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. M. Ajayi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ajayi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the case until April 27 for mention.
