Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) plans to organize a football tournament for both male and female children in the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Benue.
Former Super Eagles star, Emmanuel Babayaro who is an Ambassador of ESLF, made this known while speaking newsmen on Saturday in Makurdi.
According to him, the tournament would feature 30 male and 30 female children in each of the LGAs.
“Even those children in the Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps in the state will be participating in the tournament.
“Experts will be brought in to mentor both the upcoming footballers as well as upcoming coaches,” Babayaro said.
He commended ESLF for doing extraordinary things for the betterment of the society, saying the foundation was ranked among the top three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country.
Earlier, the Founder of ESLF, Eunice Ortom, said the interest of the young ones in the society was very important to the organisation.
“If the interest of the young ones is protected, the society will be better for it.
“The vices in the society will be reduced drastically if the young ones are gainfully engaged.
“It is on this note that we want to harness the football talents in the LGAs, which have been untapped,” she said.
Ortom appealed to well-meaning individuals to join forces with the organisation to help in exposing the talents which were untapped in the LGAs.
Speaking also, the Chairman of the tournament’s Local Organising Committee, Tama Aondofar, said the tournament was an opportunity for the children to showcase their talents.
The duo of Tijani Babangida and Moses Kpakor, ex-internationals and ESLF Ambassadors, also commended the foundation for taking a giant step by organising the tournament and called for its sustenance.
The tournament will begin on April 25.
