Mr Anayo Nwonu, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency, has declared his intention to contest the governorship position in Ebonyi come 2023.
Nwonu, a two-time member of the House of Representatives under the platform of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP), made his intention known to journalists in Abakaliki on Saturday.
The lawmaker said that he was inspired to become the next governor of Ebonyi because of his capacity to bring more people-oriented projects to the state.
“I am challenged more by the level of poverty, joblessness, and poor health facilities amongst others.
“As a governor with executive powers, I know I can do more to positively transform the lives of our people if emerged come 2023.
“We shall specifically and comprehensively focus on good governance, education, health and well-being, agriculture, industrial development and security.
“When elected, I will promote policies that would give every law-abiding resident in the state a sense of belonging,” he said.
The lawmaker described Ebonyi as “home for all” and noted that when elected to office as the governor, he would also ensure massive job creation.
“My dear brothers and sisters, our party, PDP requires the services of a just and compassionate leader, who has what it takes to reclaim the mandate.
“It requires a leader with a ground game driven by the people at the grassroots.
“A leader, who have a common touch with the people, and I believe I am the leader come 2023,” Nwonu added.
