An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Monday sentenced two friends to nine months imprisonment for stealing their neighbor’s clothes and perfume worth N300,000.
The police charged Tobi Fashola, 22, and Anas Idris, 19 with joint act, housebreaking, and theft.
The Judge, Sani Umar, in his ruling sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency.
Umar ordered each of the convicts to pay N30,000 for each offense or in default, should serve a jail term of three months each for each offense.
He said that the sentencing would run consecutively, adding that they have the right to appeal the judgment within 30 days.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Sunday Eze of the same address reported the matter at the Iddo Police station on March 15.
Tanko said that Fashola and one I.G now at large connived, broke into the complainant’s shop, and stole clothes, bottles of perfume, and body creams worth N300,000.
He said that Idris escorted Fashola to the Lugbe tipper garage and sold the items to one Mohammed Kabir of Lugbe for N7,000.
He said that the offense contravened the provisions of sections 79, 346, and 287 of the Penal Code.
