The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has donated a new bus and cash of N300,000 to empower the widows of its officers in the state.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Mr Makinde Ayinla, at the empowerment on Wednesday at the NSCDC headquarters in Ilorin, said that the programme was in two phases.
Ayinla explained that one phase was for the widows of the late officers and the other for the Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CIDOWA).
The commandant also said that one of the responsibilities of the corps was to ensure the welfare of the family of officers that sustained fatal injury and death in the course of duty.
Mrs Bimbo Afolayan, the Guest Speaker, who spoke on “Coping with Stress at Home”, said that the major cause of stress was anxiety to meet up with all the family needs.
According to Afolayan, also an executive of CIDOWA says stress is a feeling of emotional sadness that can lead to tension and also lead to frustration.
“There are many causes of stress and it could be well managed, among which is to do what you can and leave what you can not most especially stay with happy people,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four widows benefitted from the empowerment, which was financed by the commandant and his wife.
Responding on behalf of the four beneficiaries, Mrs Olarinoye Azeez, expressed happiness and thanked the commandant.
She prayed and wished him a successful tenure in office as well as Almighty Allah’s mercy.
