The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, has condemned the attacks on some communities in Plateau, describing them as satanic.
Umar Farouq, who said this in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Nneka Anibeze, in Abuja on Wednesday, also sympathized with the state government and victims of the attacks.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the attacks were carried out on Sunday in Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas of the state.
The communities included Kukawa, Gyambawu, Dungur, Kyaram, Yelwa, Dadda, Wanka, Shuwaka, Gwammadaji, and Dadin Kowa.
According to her, the mayhem unleashed on innocent citizens, especially during Ramadan fasting is evil.
The minister has directed the immediate deployment of relief materials, including food, water, blankets, and sleeping nets to the displaced victims.
“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) under the ministry and other relevant stakeholders are already in Plateau for assessment to ascertain the level of destruction for further decision,” she said.
The Coordinator, NEMA North Central Zonal office Jos, Mr. Eugene Nyelong, who led the team said that the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was over 4, 800 comprising mostly women and children.
Nyelong, however, said that the Local Government Health Department through the dispensary in Garga Town was offering skeletal medical support to the displaced persons.
He added that the Director-General of NEMA, Mr. Ahmed Habib, was working on prompt delivery of emergency humanitarian support ahead of full intervention.
