The Abia Police Command has confirmed the alleged killing of an unidentified woman by hoodlums in a hotel at Ubani Street, Ogbor Hill, Aba.
The command’s Spokesman, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident to our correspondent Aba on Friday.
Ogbonna said the incident happened on April 15.
He said that the remains of the woman had been deposited at a morgue in the commercial city of Abia.
He also said that the command had intensified investigations to unravel those behind the killing and adbuction of the deceased two-year-old girl.
He said that the state Criminal Investigation Department was handling the matter.
Ogbonna also said that the command would be glad to receive any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.
He gave out his telephone number and that of the Commissioner of Police as 08094448883 and 08039148294, respectively.
He urged members of the public willing to give credible information on the crime to do so using either of the numbers.
He further advised that such information could also be availed any police station in the state.
Our correspondent learnt from sources in the area that the assailants fled with the woman’s child from the hotel after killing her.
A resident of the area, Chimuanya Ezenna, alleged that the hotel had been known for several unresolved cases of murder and missing customers.
Ezenna regretted that no arrest had been made in connection with the latest incident.
“Residents are now afraid to report cases of deaths and missing persons in the hotel to the Ogbor Hill Police Divisional Station so that they would not be victimised.
“We reliably learnt that at least seven murder cases have been recorded at the hotel since January,” he said.
Ezenna said that youths of the area, who were angry with the killing and abduction of the little girl, were spoiling to burn down the hotel, if the culprits were not arrested and brought to book.
“The incessant killings going on in the hotel and why no member of the management and staff had been prosecuted for conspiracy and murder is provoking.
“I expect that the State Government should intervene in order to put an end to the ugly development,” Ezenna said.
