The authority of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has inaugurated the institution’s Integrated Data Centre to address the challenges of accessing transcripts in the institution.
Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, Vice-Chancellor of DELSU, inaugurated the project on Monday in Abraka Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
It was part of the programmes lined up to mark the 30th Anniversary and 14th Convocation ceremonies of the university.
Other projects slated for the inauguration are: the Faculty of Pharmacy Complex, Faculty of Arts complex, Department of Nursing Science Education.
They also include: Educational Technology Building, Access road to Faculty of Pharmacy, Animal House and Faculty of Science and the Foundation laying stone of the Faculty of Management Science Complex.
Addressing journalists at a news conference on Monday in Abraka, Egwunyenga said that the Database Centre was executed collaborating with the Lagos State University, Ojo.
He said that it was completed within six months.
“DELSU is taking scientific steps toward addressing the challenges of accessing transcript in the university. We are doing it in collaboration with the Lagos State University.
“Our vision is to digitalise DELSU to meet up with world top class university standard and we shall achieve this through consistent improvement, updating and developing DELSU Database.
“The Database shall possibly encompasses every unit, Departments, Faculties and sundry for e-management of DELSU system via digitalisation of transcripts, develop robust e-result engine, among others,” Egwunyenga said.
The vice-chancellor apologised for the hardship people had experienced over the years because of their transcripts.
He said that the university had set up a committee to work with the Senate to ensure all hard copies were converted to soft copies for easy accessibility.
