North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to speed up his country’s nuclear weapons program development.
The North Korean leader said this at a military parade this week, according to state media on Tuesday.
Nuclear capabilities must be boosted at the fastest pace; Kim was reported as saying by state-controlled KCNA on Tuesday.
This is according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
Kim delivered the speech at a military parade in central Pyongyang celebrating the 90th founding anniversary of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army, Yonhap reported.
The event was late on Monday.
Strategic weapons including a “Hwasong-17’’, a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile, were reportedly part of the parade, was a demonstration of the country’s military strength.
Previous parades staged to celebrate public holidays had been used to show off new military hardware, including ballistic missiles.
North Korea tested a suspected intercontinental missile in late March in defiance of UN resolutions that banned the testing of nuclear-capable missiles of any range.
The country was subjected to strict sanctions on account of its nuclear weapons programe.
