Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun says the distribution of the monthly free food by the state government is aimed at banishing hunger and poverty among the vulnerable groups.
Oyetola said this during the state’s monthly free food distribution programme on Monday in Osogbo.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Wole Oyebamiji, the governor said that the free food scheme had become a model of social investment programmes of the government.
The governor also said that the scheme had recorded huge success as it had helped to bring the government closer to the people.
Oyetola, who described the initiative as a veritable tool for meeting the masses at the point of their needs, said on no account would government renege on its pledge to continue with the programme.
” This free food programme is targeted at banishing hunger, poverty and related vices as part of government’s social security intervention designed to scale-up the welfare and general well-being of the citizenry”, he said.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr Olalekan Badmus, said the government would continue to make the free food available to vulnerable groups in the state.
Badmus said the government had put necessary mechanisms in place to ensure that the food get to the right people.
