A Jos Central Area Court on Wednesday sentenced a student, Benjamin Ezekiel, to three months imprisonment for stealing iron rods and a charcoal stove.
The presiding Judge, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced Ezekiel after he pleaded guilty to trespass and theft and begged the court for leniency.
Pati, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10, 000.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Dabit told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ division Police station Jos, on Feb. 26, by Ms Faith Namamea.
He said Ezekiel, a student broke into the house of Namamea, located in Tudun Wada in Jos and stole 10 iron rods and one charcoal stove worth N42,500.
Dabit said that during police investigation the suspect confessed to the crime.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 272 of the Plateau Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
