The Adamawa State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticised the sack of Joseph Ayuba (PDP), member representing Michika Local Government Area (LGA) in the State House of Assembly.
APC described the Peoples Democratic Party’s action as; “clueless and threat to democracy.
Mohammed Abdullahi, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, made APC’s stance known in a statement issued over the sack of Ayuba on Wednesday in Yola.
Reports have it that the House had earlier on Wednesday, during an emergency plenary presided over by the Speaker of the house, Aminu Abbas, declared the seat of the member vacant over his defection from PDP to APC.
Abdullahi noted that it was on record that an APC lawmaker, Musa Bororo, representing Mubi in the state assembly, announced his defection to the PDP from the APC on the floor of the house, but the speaker warmly welcomed him and saw no offence in his action.
“The Speaker of the State House of Assembly is under oath to do justice to all manner of people and not to allow his personal interest to interfere with his official conduct.
“However, from the recent development, his action has proved otherwise.
“Joseph Ayuba for strategic reasons did not announce his defection on the floor of house. but the speaker based on personal interest and that of the state governor, hurriedly declared his seat vacant in a commando style.
“As a Party, we therefore, strongly condemn such clueless and selective justice in its entirety”. Abdullahi said.
He said that as a law abiding political party, the APC was aware that it was only the court that had the power to declare a seat vacant.
Abdullahi therefore, said that the party had resolved to challenge the house’s decision in a court of competent jurisdiction.
“The party has resolved to challenge the Speaker, as well as the procedure they followed in reconvening the house which has been on recess.
“Also, the party is going to challenge the Speaker and those that were present during the declaration for allowing their personal interest to interfere with official conduct with the glaring injustice and partisanship in declaring Joseph Ayuba Kwada’s seat vacant”. Abdullahi said.
According to him, the legal Adviser of the APC has been mandated to commence legal action and equally ask the court to declare the seat of Musa Bororo, member in the state assembly from Mubi vacant, following his defection from APC to PDP.
Also in his reaction to the house’s decision, Ayuba described the declaration of his seat vacant by the house as unjust.
According to the lawmaker, he is yet to officially declare his defection or present any formal letter to the house that he has defected to the APC before it took the action.
