The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) has joined other Nigerians in mourning the demise of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, describing it as great loss of a fellow.
The medical association made the disclosure on Thursday during their condolence visit to the palace of the departed traditional ruler in the ancient Oyo town.

Reports that the late Alaafin died on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital Ado-Ekiti.
The delegation led by its National Vice- President, Dr Odusanya Felix, presented a condolence letter signed by its President, Dr Nnenna Chigbo and Secretary, Dr Usman Ahmed, to the royal family.
The NSP said that the late traditional ruler as a sport enthusiast, promoted the role of physiotherapy in sports medicine, particularly in injury prevention, recovery and quick return to active game.
It prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed traditional ruler, while commiserating with the Adeyemi’s family, Oyomesi, Oyo indigenes and Oyo State residents.
The NSP admonished Nigerians to be physically active by engaging in various sporting activities as emulated by the late Alaafin.
It used the occasion of the condolence visit to reiterate the importance of physiotherapy profession in health care and sustenance of healthy lifestyle.
“Physiotherapy is an independent health care profession involved in promotion, prevention, rehabilitation and restoration of health.
“And movement through the use of physical means like exercise, massage, manipulations as well as physical modalities,” it said.
Dr Olubunmi Olaleye, the Oyo State NSP Chairman, described the late Alaafin as an apostle of healthy living and physical activity.
“The late Alaafin was an apostle of healthy living and physical activity which he demonstrated while alive.
“He did it through his participation and presence at various sporting events being a boxer before he ascended the ancestral throne of Alaafin,” he said.
In his remark, Bode Durojaiye, the Media Aide to the late Alaafin, appreciated the gesture, commending the activities of the professional body.
He recalled how the late Oba Adeyemi 111 was honoured with the association’s prestigious honourary fellowship award during the World Physiotherapy Day hosted in his palace on September 8, 2016.
Reports that other members of the NSP delegation included the Oyo State NSP Social Secretary, Dr Tosin Omosanya and Public Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Adejobi.
