The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami’s decision to withdraw his ambition in the Kebbi governorship race demonstrates altruism and patriotism.
“The decision is not only a demonstration of altruism and patriotism, but of contentment, self-control and decisiveness in problem-solving at a time of competing stimuli.
“It is a commendable posture worthy of admiration coming from a paragon of virtue”.
He noted that Malami has not resigned from his current position as the Minister and Attorney General of the Federation but only withdrew his ambition to contest for the 2023 Kebbi State Gubernatorial Elections.
“Malami has the right to choose to voluntarily shelve his gubernatorial ambitions, and it is a matter of personal conviction and individual right which didn’t violate any
law.
“Right-thinking members of the society accord respect to an individual’s right to freedom of choice in matters relating to this.
“As Nigerian citizens with inalienable fundamental rights, we are not aware of any legally justifiable and tenable obligations compelling Malami to make this choice.
Reports have it that Malami declared interest in the Kebbi
governorship race in April.
Our correspondent reports that he said he took the decision after consultation with political stakeholders in the state.
He commended the efforts of Kebbi people and APC chieftains for their call on him to contest the state governorship.
“You asked me to come and contest, and I have agreed to contest. Today, I have joined the governorship race,” he added
