Movement for the Election of Nigeria President of Igbo Extraction has urged leadership of political parties to ensure justice and level playing field in conduct of their primary elections.
The National Convener of the movement, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, made the call while speaking with our correspondent in Enugu on Saturday on the need to get internal democracy of political parties’ right.
Ezekwueme called on delegates to bear the interest of the country and citizenry at heart by voting for most qualified, credible, patriotic, de-tribalised and God fearing candidates that would live above self and bear the interest of the citizenry at heart.
According to him, as much as some candidates of political parties should eventually become winners of the elections, parties should try to present the best candidates for the electorate to also make best choices in the main elections.
“It is incumbent upon the delegates to vote wisely with their conscience and conviction as the only veritable weapon to enthrone charismatic, patriotic, selfless, God fearing servant leaders in 2023.
“Worthy of note is for delegates to always bear the principle of federal character, fairness, equity, justice and love in the choice of their candidates, especially in choosing their presidential candidates.
“It is of prime importance to note that Nigeria is desirous of patriotic, nationalistic, honest, transparent and anti corruption crusader that will listen to the words, deeds actions and aspirations of the citizens.
“It is of great relevance to note that best candidates from political parties’ primary elections will precipitate the emergence of best candidates during the main election as the electorate makes choices from candidates presented by the political parties,” he said.
Ezekwueme also reiterated the movement’s appeal to political parties to reciprocate immense contributions of South-East towards nation building as they zoned their presidential candidates to South-East.
“This will certainly douse political tension and give the zone a sense of belonging as was done to South-west in 1999 due to annulment of June 12 Presidential Election won by late Chief MKO Abiola of defunct Social Democratic Party.
“The movement also prays for successful, transparent and peaceful parties’ primaries that will produce the best candidates and meet national and international standards.
