The Police on Tuesday arraigned three men before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing iron rods worth N1.8 million from a shop.
The defendants — Peter Durojaiye,18; Abdulganiu Alajaro, 30; and Nosiru Idris,27, are facing a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and burglary.
The prosecution, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants and others still large, committed the offences from May 16 to May 18, at a shop located opposite Winners Chapel Church, on Idiroko-Ota expressway, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendants broke into the shop of the complainant, Samuel Sunday, and stole 12mm and 16mm of iron rods valued at N1.8 million.
He said that the defendants were arrested by the community vigilantes and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 390(9), 413(1) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Adeyemi said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.
