Mr Femi Bankole, the proprietor of a private school in Ilorin, has called on government at all levels to provide free education for children in order to reduce child labour in the country.
Making the appeal in Ilorin on Friday, Bankole told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that free education for children would help reduce the high rate of child labour in the country.
According to him, most children suffer from their parent’s inability to send them to school to achieve formal education.
“Government must adopt free education for every child. Adopt free education to safe children from exploitation.
“The children are the future of the nation. They don’t deserve to be used for hard labour before they can survive.
“Make education compulsory for all children and give them hope for the future. Prioritise child education and enforce it on parents,” he said.
The proprietor explained that most children are not to be blamed for finding themselves in difficult situations ormout of school.
He said parents and government are responsible for most children suffering from child labour.
He however called on parents to stop trading their children’s future for money and also invest on them for future.
