Cycling improves physical fitness, health wellbeing – Official

Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina State Command, Mr Ali Sule, says cycling improves physical fitness and heath wellbeing.

Sule stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Katsina on Saturday.

He said that the UN General Assembly had declared June 3 of every year as World Bicycle Day because of the importance of cycling to mankind.

“World Bicycle Day is a day set aside to encourage people to ride bicycle to maintain healthy lifestyle and physical fitness.

“This entails regular physical activity which can aid in prevention and management of various ailments like diabetes, heart disease, mental illness and arthritis, among others.

“It is because of this that FRSC has keyed into the programme in view of its benefits,” he said.

The sector commander noted that the use of bicycles could help in reducing traffic and emission of gasses into the atmosphere due to fuel burning by vehicles which, he said, was harzardous to human health.

He said that the FRSC in the state and across the country also joined in the World Bicycle Day celebrated recently.
