2023 Elections: Mohammed wins PDP Reps’ ticket in Ifako-Ijaiye

Alhaja Fateema Mohammed on Monday, emerged  winner of PDP House of Representatives primaries in Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

The primary election was held after an initial disagreement over the delegates list among PDP aspirants which delayed the exercise.

The accreditation of delegates started around 7:30 p.m. and voting commenced immediately.

Announcing the result, Mr Anyanwu Uzochukwu, Chairman, Electoral Committee, PDP House of Representatives primaries for Ifako-Ijaiye Federal constituency declared that Mohammed polled a total of 28 out of 33 delegate votes to emerge winner.

Uzochukwu said that other contestants, Alhaja Taiwo Jayeola, Idera Shodipo and Wasiu Adesola scored two, one and zero votes respectively, while two votes were invalid.

The electoral officer said that 33 delegates were accredited for the exercise.

“Haven counted these ballots, I am pleased to announce, as the electoral officer that Mohammed Fateema is the winner. He scored the highest number of votes,” Uzochukwu said.

In his acceptance speech, Mohammed commended the electoral committee, INEC officials, the security,  delegates,  party leaders and faithful for their patience to ensure that the primaries held.

According to her, it was a double victory for her being the one that also won the May 22 primaries that was cancelled, before the rerun was announced.

Mohammed, who promised to bring a new face to the representation in the constituency if she emerged winner at the general election in 2023, urged other contestants to be sportsmen and join hands with the party to ensure victory at the polls.

She urged party members, who were yet to register in the ongoing INEC continuous voter registration to do so before the end of the exercise on June 30.

The rerun got disrupted earlier in the day when two of the three aspirants contended the delegates list.

The controversy heated up the atmosphere at the Civic Centre venue of the exercise, which made the electoral officer to announce that it was unsafe to conduct the exercise.

The rerun was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The PDP House of representatives rerun primaries in Lagos state as a result of the cancellation of the same exercise held on May 22 across the state.
