An ecumenical funeral service for victims of the fatal train accident in southern Germany will be held on Saturday, in the Alpine resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, close to the site of the accident.
The archdiocese of Munich and Freising, on Wednesday said Reinhard Marx,m, the Catholic archbishop of Munich and Freising Cardinal and Christian Kopp, the Protestant bishop for the region, will hold service alongside the bereaved, survivors, relatives, rescue and aid workers.
Representatives of the state government and other political figures are also expected to attend.
Prayers will also be recited in Ukrainian during the service, as two of the victims were women, who had fled the war in Ukraine.
The regional train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich, derailed shortly after departure on Friday.
According to reports, the two Ukrainian women, aged 30 and 39, who were killed, had fled to Bavaria with their children.
In addition, a 51-year-old woman from Wiesbaden and a 70-year-old woman from the district of Munich also died in the accident.
The fifth victim, a 13-year-old boy from the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, was recovered from under an overturned wagon on Saturday.
A 34-year-old woman was still in a critical condition as of Wednesday, according to the Police.
More than 40 people were injured, many of them seriously.
The main road and the tunnel at the site of the accident have been opened for passage.
Road barricades along the busy route in the holiday region had been lifted, a spokesperson for the Upper Bavaria South Police headquarters, announced earlier.
