Mr Emmanuel Umbugadu, Nasarawa State governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has picked Yahaya Usman-Ohinoyi, as his running mate ahead of the 2023 general elections,
Umbugadu made the disclosure at a meeting with the State Working Committee (SWC) members of the party, on Monday in Lafia.
Umbugadu said the party had zoned the position of running mate to Nasarawa West Senatorial district after due consultations with all the relevant organs of the party in the state.
He explained, ”the party took the decision for strategic reason to ensure victory at the 2023 polls.”
Umbugadu, a two-term House of Representatives Member and a candidate of the party in 2019, said he had the pedigree and records of achievements to transform the state.
He listed his scorecard while at the House of Representatives of Akwanga/Nassarawa-Eggon/Wamba federal constituency to include; drilling of over 1, 500 boreholes.
Others were the training of over 600 youths in different skills, as well as the registration of over 25, 000 persons on National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Others were: Facilitation of the construction of 18 Primary Healthcare Centres, rural electrification and installation of transformers, among others.
Umbugadu, therefore said, ”the party in the state is united and it will coast to victory in 2023.”
Earlier, Francis Orogu, Nasarawa State PDP Chairman, said the choice of the running mate was done after due consultations with all critical stakeholders of the party.
Orogu said with the unveiling of the running mate, ”the party is sure of defeating the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
”After almost four years in office, the APC-led administration in the state has done nothing, therefore PDP is on a rescue mission.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the running mate was a two-term Member of Nasarawa State House of Assembly from Umaisha/Ugya state constituency.
