A Jos Upper Area Court on Monday sentenced Francis Moses, 18, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing iron rods worth N85,000.
The Presiding Judge, Daniel Damulak, sentenced Moses following a guilty plea he entered for theft and trespass.
The convict also begged the court for leniency.
The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N 20,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gukwat told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto division Police station Jos, on June 2, by Ekwedike Tochuckwu who resides at No 102 Busabuji Street, Jos.
He said that the convict scaled the fence and entered Tochukwu’s compound and stole iron rods.
The police prosecutor further told the court, that during the police investigation the convict pleaded guilty to the crime.
Gukwat said the offense contravenes the provisions of sections 327, 271, and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
